NEW YORK (AP) — The National Retail Federation, the nation’s largest retail trade group, expects shoppers will spend more this year than last year, but their spending pace will slow given all the economic uncertainty. The group forecast Thursday that U.S. holiday sales will rise 3% to 4% for November through December, compared with a 5.4% growth of a year ago. Sales for the two-month period will increase to between $957.3 billion and $966.6 billion, the group predicted. The pace is consistent with the average annual holiday increase of 3.6% from 2010 to pre-pandemic 2019. Americans ramped up spending during the pandemic, which accounted for some outsized sales numbers. For the holiday 2021 season, sales for the two-month period surged 12.7%.The forecast comes as shoppers keep spending, powered by sturdy hiring, low unemployment and healthy household finances. That’s despite still higher prices — though inflation has eased — and higher interest rates that make getting a mortgage...Giants not exactly facing the team they expected in the Raiders

LAS VEGAS (AP) — When the week began, the New York Giants thought they were preparing for a Josh McDaniels-coached team quarterbacked by Jimmy Garoppolo. But after a rough Monday night performance at Detroit on national TV, the Las Vegas Raiders fired McDaniels — and others — and benched Garoppolo.Antonio Pierce, who played for the Giants in 2005-09, will be the Raiders’ interim coach and rookie Aidan O’Connell the starting QB when the teams meet Sunday.“I’ve been on the other side of that, too,” New York coach Brian Daboll said. “You have to really focus on your team and getting prepared and watching all the games. You can only do so much.”The Giants (2-6) get back starting quarterback Daniel Jones and hope his return and a defense that has allowed 34 points over three games can lead the way to a victory over Las Vegas (3-5). That could be quite a challenge to a Raiders offense that hasn’t scored 20 points this season — Las Vegas scored 21 points against the New En...AES: Q3 Earnings Snapshot
