A research rocket launched from Sweden’s recently opened Arctic Circle spaceport landed over the border in Norway this week — triggering a backlash from Oslo. Instead of coming down in Sweden as planned, the microgravity scientific rocket instead hit a mountainous region in Norway, some 40 kilometers west of the intended landing zone and 15 kilometers over the international border, according to the Swedish Space Corporation. The Norwegian government was displeased with its Nordic neighbor, arguing it should report such incidents more thoroughly.“The crash of a rocket like this is a very serious incident that can cause serious damage,” the Norwegian foreign ministry said. “When such a border violation occurs, it is crucial that those responsible immediately inform the relevant Norwegian authorities through the proper channels.”The SCC said it was working to retrieve the remains and that an investigation will be started to probe what caused the “non-nominal flight...Erdoğan cancels public rallies after health scare

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is facing the toughest election of his 20-year rule, canceled planned campaign events Wednesday after falling ill during a live TV broadcast Tuesday night. “Today, I will be resting at home on the advice of our doctors,” Erdoğan tweeted, adding his condition was a “minor inconvenience due to (his) busy work.”The Turkish president, who was due to hold rallies in three different Turkish cities on Wednesday, will be replaced by his vice-president, Fuat Oktay.Erdoğan cut short a live interview Tuesday night after suffering from an upset stomach.Erdoğan was being interviewed on Turkish TV when the program was interrupted for about 20 minutes, after he suddenly felt ill off-camera, according to the BBC.He later came back to the screen, explaining he had suffered from a “serious stomach cold” and had considered canceling the interview — which started one-and-a-half hours late — after doing “intense campaign work” on Monda...Global data is key to tackling the rise in brain health conditions
Published Tue, 03 Dec 2024 17:47:12 GMT
Brain health conditions have become a global health emergency.Incidences of Parkinson’s disease and dementia have more than doubled over the past 30 years. More than 15 percent of all health loss (for example through illness, disability or death) around the world is now associated with brain health conditions. In 2021, approximately 406 million disability-adjusted life years were caused by brain health conditions, which is higher than other widely acknowledged health threats such as cancer (260 million DALYs) or cardiovascular disease (402 million DALYs).The case numbers are expected to rise further due to aging and growing populations and other contributing factors such as smoking, obesity and pollution. The number of people living with dementia worldwide is forecast to increase from 60 million now to 150 million in 2050. In Europe, the 2022 total lifetime costs for Alzheimer’s disease were estimated to be at €1.2 trillion, with 80 percent of them driven by informal care and non-me...Man accused of assaulting MIT student in Back Bay expected to be arraigned on multiple charges

He is also now facing charges of assault with intent to rape and indecent assault and battery, police said.Following the attack, MIT officials said the person who was attacked was a student. Officials said a man on a bike grabbed her from behind while she was going into the back door of a sorority house. The student said the man asked her for food, groped her, then followed her into the building where he further assaulted her. Students on campus were shaken by the news. “It was shocking news to hear,” Ritesh Rai said. “It ...Boston police searching for parent accused of assaulting school bus driver

Published Tue, 03 Dec 2024 17:47:12 GMT
Dementia Joe Biden made it official yesterday that he wants to “finish the job.”Maybe he should learn how to finish a sentence first. The announcement was pre-recorded, for obvious reasons. According to the latest NBC poll, 70% of Americans don’t want Brandon to run again – 70%! That includes a majority of Democrats.Only 26% in the poll want him back on the ballot at age 82. Even Donald Trump has 35% rooting for him to run next year.Rather than releasing that statement – in fact a campaign ad – perhaps Brandon should have put out a videotape of his recent greatest hits, to show that he hasn’t lost an inch off the old fastball. In fact, he’s lost a yard – 10 yards in fact. First down, Brandon! But I have the tape for you, from this last month. All dialogue guaranteed verbatim.Let’s start with Monday afternoon at the White House. Dementia Joe is sporting his Seventies shades.“We know that there’s no there’s no such there’s there’s there’s so much more! To finish the job. We can do it!”T...UF’s O’Cyrus Torrence goes from nowheresville to the NFL Draft

O’Cyrus Torrence and Billy Napier arranged a phone call for the same day each week to discuss joining forces at the University of Louisiana.Their timing had to be precise. The wireless phone service at the home of Torrence’s grandmother in Greenburg (pop. 718) was spotty at best in the bayou. To say Torrence came from nowhere to become a potential first-round NFL draft pick is no exaggeration.“He’d go to that one corner of his house where he had cell phone service and would pick up the phone at a certain time every Thursday night,” Napier recalled March 30 at the Gators’ Pro Day.The extra effort was worth it.A raw talent and lightly recruited, the massive Torrence rapidly developed into the offensive line’s anchor. Napier, coming off a 7-7 debut season in 2018 as a head coach, built the Ragin’ Cajuns’ power running game behind him. When Napier left for Florida after their third season together, Torrence followed him to Gainesville,...Guregian: Patriots take offensive tackle in Herald’s NFL Mock Draft

Mock drafts come down to a ton of guess work. Some of it is educated, while most of it can be chalked up to taking random shots in the dark.No one really knows how it’s going to turn out. But it’s a fun exercise, taking a crack at it every year. For this year’s mock, figuring where the top four or five quarterbacks wind up going will dictate how the board falls. Alabama’s Bryce Young appears to be a lock as the first player chosen. After that, you might as well pick them out of a hat.So here’s how I see the first round shaking out Thursday night, with no trades included.1. Panthers: Bryce Young, QB, AlabamaFor quite a while, it appeared there was no clear-cut choice. I was ready to flip a coin, but Young has emerged from the pack. He’ll be Frank Reich’s quarterback when the smoke clears.2. Texans: Tyree Wilson, DE, Texas TechEarly on, C.J. Stroud seemed like a lock here with Young going first. Still a possibility, but the guess here is Nick Caserio will go with the edge rusher ...A Ravens fan’s guide to 2023 NFL draft: Everything you need to know before picks begin
